Bersa has been manufacturing firearms since the 1960s. The company was founded by Argentine mechanical engineer, Amédée Bersa in 1957. When he died in 1975, his son Carlos took over the reins of the company and it is still owned by members of his family to this day.
The name "Bersa" is actually an acronym that stands for "Ballester-Rigaud & Company". This is a reference to two individuals who were partners with Mr. Bersa: Ballesteros and Rigaud.
The Bersa line of handguns is owned and operated by the Bersa SA Corporation out of Argentina. Currently, Bersa is producing the following handgun models:
Although Bersa has seen some success with various models, the original Thunder .380 is still Bersa's top selling pistol.
