Browning Hi Power

The Browning Hi-power pistol was initially designed by John Browning in 1914. FN (FN Herstal of Belgium) was trying to win a new pistol contract with the French military, and commissioned John Browning to do the design. The design went through a number of refinements, and the pistol finally went into production in 1934, although Browning passed away in 1926. The design was finalized by FN designer Dieudonne Saive. Although the French government opted to go with a different pistol model, FN started production of the Hi-Power and never looked back. It still remains one of the commonly used used pistols for military use worldwide; including more than 65,000 models that were deployed to the German Army in 1940 after the Germans invaded Belgium and took over the FN plant.
