Over the last few years, there has been a significant resurgence in the popularity of single action micro 9mm pistols. This was kicked off with the introduction of the Sig P938 in 2012, which was based on the success of the smaller Sig P238. The 938 was a huge success for Sig, and other firearm manufacturers took notice. For hardcore fans of single action shooters, the concept of a miniature 9mm that operates like a 1911 has always been intriguing for those scenarios where one can’t carry a true 1911.
In 2013, Kimber Manufacturing introduced the Kimber Micro 380, which was an immediate success. However, within a month of its release, Kimber fans were asking for a 9mm version of the Micro 380. In 2016, Kimber answered those requests by introducing the Kimber Micro 9.
The Kimber Micro 9mm has the exact controls as those found on the Micro 380, but is actually slightly larger than the 380. Very much like the same path Kimber took when the Micro 380 was released, Kimber also introduced the following Micro 9 variants:
So far, the Micro 9 has had very favorable reviews. Its distant Kimber pistol relative, the Kimber Solo, had a reputation for being extremely finicky with ammo, but the Micro 9 seems to eat most all 9mm ammo relatively well.
Most pocket 9mm handguns have a reputation for being great for CCW, but not so pleasant at the range. Various reviews so far seem to indicate that the Micro 9 is manageable to shoot and performs well for its diminutive size.
Here are some commonly asked questions that we’ve seen regarding Kimber Micro 9 holster options:
All the holster models that are shown below are available in right handed and left handed versions.
The holster models without a thumb break or retention strap use friction based retention to keep the firearm in the holster.
Yes, any of the MTR Custom holsters listed below are available in a version to fit the Micro 9 Crimson Carry with Crimson Trace Lasergrips.
Unfortunately, it won’t as the Micro 9 is larger and longer than the 380. It really requires a holster specifically made for it.
While the Micro 9 and the Sig P938 are very, very close in size, they aren’t an exact match. Depending on the holster brand and how closely the holster is finished, the Micro 9 may or may not fit in a holster made for the P938. It really just depends on each individual brand.
The Sig P365 has a completely different frame and measurements so a Kimber Micro 9 won't fit in a holster made for the Sig P365.
Most of the MTR Custom leather holster models listed below are available with an optional thumb break that can be added on. Any of the Don Hume holster models listed below that are shown with a thumb break are available as a Micro 9 holster.
It's important to note that the Micro 9 is a single action pistol meaning that it will only fire when the hammer is in the cocked position. As such, both MTR Custom and Don Hume only offer thumb break options for the Kimber Micro 9 that function when the pistol is carried with the hammer cocked (commonly called the "Cocked & Locked", or "C&L" position). This means that the thumb break will ONLY snap closed when the hammer is in the cocked position. The thumb break actually goes over the back of the slide when the hammer is cocked, between the firing pin and the hammer. If you prefer to carry your Kimber Micro 9 with the hammer down, then a holster with a thumb break WILL NOT work properly for you.
For starters, all the Micro 9 pistol models are built on the same frame, so any variant will fit a holster made for the base Micro 9. So, to answer your question, yes, we offer leather holsters to fit the Micro 9 SS model.
As we've mentioned before on the website, answering the question of a "best" holster is nearly impossible as the answer is based entirely on opinion. And, that's probably not the question to be asking. The question to to be asking is "what's the best holster for my needs".
As the Micro 9 is very popular for concealed carry, most shoppers are looking for a CCW, concealed carry holster, or appendix holster. Based on that, the IWB holsters for the Micro 9 are the popular holster style that we carry. However, depending on your needs, any of the holster models shown below are excellent options for a Kimber Micro 9.
