The success of the small Sig P238 led Sig Sauer to release a slightly larger 9mm version called the P938 in 2012. Much like the P238 pistol, the 938 is a sub-compact single action model that will hold either 6 or 7 rounds of 9mm Luger.
Unlike many other handguns created for the subcompact 9mm market, the P938 uses a metal alloy for the frame versus the typical polymer found in other models. The idea behind using steel was to offer enough weight to make the P938 more pleasant to shoot than some of the polymer based models like the Kahr PM9, Ruger LC9, etc. Still, the P938 weighs just 16 ounces unloaded, making it more than light enough for pocket carry, CCW, or concealed carry.
From a dimensions standpoint, the P938 features a three-inch barrel with an overall length of 5.9 inches. With a width of 1.1 inches, the single stack offers a much thinner profile than a double-stack sub-compact pistol like the Glock 26.
The Sig Sauer P938 is equipped with tritium night sights in transverse dovetails and offers the standard three-dot combat sight set-up. An ambidextrous safety makes the P938 easy for left and right-handed shooters. However, if you prefer the single-action mechanics typically found on a 1911 weapon, then you will find the P938 feels like a trusted old friend.
At the time of this writing, Sig Sauer offers the P938 in several different versions equipped with different grips, colors, and features. In addition, most 938 models are chambered in 9mm, except the Sig P938-22, which is chambered in 22 LR.
The size and slim profile of the 938 make it an excellent choice for concealed carry. From a holster standpoint, the Sig P938 is a versatile handgun that can be worn in several different gun holster configurations, including:
Here are some of the more common questions that we see regarding Sig P938 holster models:
The answer is no, as the P938 frame is larger (slightly wider and longer) than the P238, requiring its own holster fit. Conversely, the Sig Sauer P238 doesn't fit well in a holster for the Sig P938 as the holster is too large for the pistol. Thus, the 238 works best in a dedicated Sig Sauer P238 holster.
Yes, but it's important to clarify which Sig laser model that you have. When Sig first introduced the P938 in 2012, they also introduced a Sig factory laser that was made to fit it.
In 2018, Sig introduced an upgraded/updated version of that factory laser called a LIMA-38 laser that was made in a version to fit the P938. So, if you decide to place an order, you'll need to know which "factory laser" model from Sig that you have. Unless you purchased an older Sig P938 from a few years back, chances are, you have one of the newer LIMA-38 models.
Yes, we do, as MTR Custom offers several holster models made specifically to fit the P938 with either the 1st generation factory Sig Sauer laser mounted or the newer Sig Sauer LIMA-38 laser mounted. Those holster models can be following this link.
Yes as MTR also offers holsters to fit the P938 with a Crimson Trace laser attached. MTR can support holsters for both the red Crimson Trace laser (LG-492) or the green Crimson Trace laser (LG-492G). Those holsters can be seen here: Sig P938 with Crimson Trace laser holster.
Because of the differences in the frame size between the P938 and P365, a 938 will not fit into a Sig P365 holster. However, if you are shopping for a 365 holster, we have those here: Sig Sauer P365 holsters.
Our most popular paddle holster for the P938 is the MTR Custom paddle, and it’s available for the P938 on its own, or with either a Sig laser (both the 1st generation or the newer LIMA-38 laser model) or Crimson Trace laser mounted as well.
We carry several OWB holster models with a thumb break for the Sig P938 from Don Hume and MTR Custom. Almost any MTR Custom holster has the option to add a thumb break as well.
Something to think about regarding holsters with a thumb break for the P938: The P938 is a single action pistol and really designed to be carried in the cocked & locked position (as in hammer cocked back with a round chambered and the thumb safety engaged).
Because of this, most holster makers only offer retention-based holsters for the 938 with the thumb breaks designed, so the pistol is carried in that C&L position. However, if you are interested in a retention holster where the thumb break rides in the uncocked position (as in hammer down), please contact us via phone or email.
While the P938 is probably on the bigger side for pocket carry, MTR Custom offers both front and rear pocket holster models for the P938. However, the front pocket holster version seems to be the more popular between it and the back pocket holster models.
The most popular selling pocket holster models we carry for the 938 are these: MTR Custom Front Pocket model and MTR Custom rear pocket holster.
Any of the MTR Custom holster models listed below are available in a version to fit a Sig P938 with a Sig LIMA 38 laser mounted to it. Any of the Don Hume holster models listed below are NOT available in that configuration.
To help, we would first need to know exactly which laser model you have mounted on your P938. There are several different laser options on the market for the 938, and we can support most of the more popular ones. Once you figure out the laser, any of the MTR Custom holster models listed below are available in a version to fit a 938 with several of the more popular laser models mounted, such as:
All you would need to do is choose the specific MTR holster that you wanted, then choose the particular laser you have mounted on your P938 from the "lights & Lasers" drop-down menu on that specific holster page.
A few of our staff are left-handed, so we understand your pain. However, to answer your question: any holster you see listed on the page below is available in a left-handed version for a Sig Sauer P938.
We carry all types of magazine carriers and mag pouch models for the Sig P398, including single carriers, double carriers, paddle magazine carriers, etc., for the Sig P938.
Those magazine carriers can be seen here: https://www.gunnersalley.com/magazine-carriers/
When you say "Viridian laser," we assume that you are asking about a holster for a Sig P938 with a Viridian R5 laser or a Viridian E-series laser mounted? If so, we can help with that, as any of the MTR Custom holster models listed can be built for that set-up with your P938.
Yes, we offer a Sig P938 and Streamlight TLR-6 holster. Any of the MTR Custom holster models you see listed below can be configured to fit a Sig P938 with a Streamlight TLR-6 mounted to it. You would want to choose the "Streamlight TLR-6" option under the "Lights & Lasers" drop-down menu.
MTR Custom offers two pocket holster models, a front pocket and a rear pocket model, and both can be configured in a version to fit the P938 with a TLR-6 mounted. Those pocket holsters can be seen here:
Honestly, there is no "best" holster for a Sig P938 as there are so many different styles of holsters for that pistol, and each type may or may not be better than any other. The "best" of anything is an opinion, and the answer really depends on how you plan to carry the pistol and what your specific needs are.
The best advice we can give on this is to honestly evaluate how you want to carry the 938 and then start researching P938 holster options. Once you've done your research, then you'll need to start buying and testing out holsters until you find the one or style that works best for you.
IWB tends to be the most popular style for the P938, but not everyone has the physical build for it or finds IWB carry all that comfortable. So again, it's probably going to be a trial and error process.
Unfortunately, we do not currently carry a holster maker who offers a shoulder holster made to fit the P938.
Any holster model listed below is available for the Sig P938.
