The success of the Model 605 revolver led Taurus to introduce a new 605 variant in 2011 called the Taurus 605 Poly Protector. Designed primarily for concealed carry, the 605 Poly Protector featured a polymer-based frame to reduce the overall weight.

Like the steel 605 revolvers, the Poly Protector models are only chambered in .357 Magnum, so they will fire .357 Mag and .38 Special ammunition. While the frame is a reinforced polymer material, the barrel and frame are made from a steel alloy. The polymer frame on the 605 Poly weighs 4 ounces less than the steel frame of the standard 605.
While the steel 605 revolvers are available in full hammer and bobbed hammer models, the 605 Protector series is only available in a full hammer. The full hammer design makes the polymer 605 function as a double-action or single-action revolver.
The reduced weight of the 605 Poly model makes it a desirable revolver option for concealed carry or field use when hunting or hiking.
From a holster standpoint, the most popular holster styles for the 605 Protector are inside the waistband, outside the waistband, and paddle holsters.
The 605 Poly model is a popular option with IWB holsters. This holster style rides inside the waistband for better concealment.

Here are some frequently asked questions that we see regarding Taurus 605 Protector Poly holster options:
While the steel version and polymer version of the 605 is in the same Taurus family of revolvers, the polymer 605 has different dimensions compared to the steel version. Those frame differences mean that the Poly 605 will not fit into a holster made for the steel 605.
The Poly Protector M605 requires a holster made specifically for it.
Although the steel versions of the Model 605 and Model 85 will generally cross-fit in a holster made for either, the polymer version of the 605 has a unique frame, so it won’t properly fit in a holster made for the Model 85.
Unfortunately, we do not currently offer an ankle holster that is available for the 605 poly revolver.
